A Dentist’s Mission Field: How Dr. Lin Turned His Practice into a Place of Ministry

Five years ago, if you had told Dr. Lin that he would be sharing the gospel and praying for his patients, he would have called you crazy.

Five years ago, if you had told Dr. Lin that he would be sharing the gospel and praying for his patients, he would have called you crazy. By nature, he was quiet and reserved, not someone you’d expect to lead spiritual conversations. “If I’m walking down the street, nobody’s going to strike up a conversation with me because I just blend into the scenery,” he says. But inside his dental office, everything was different. Patients came to him, trusted him, and listened to what he had to say.

As he sought the Lord about where he was supposed to minister, the Holy Spirit spoke clearly: “Your dental office is your ministry spot.” At first, Dr. Lin couldn’t believe it. Could his workplace really be a place where people met Jesus? Yet, as he looked around, he realized he had been missing opportunities for years.

Determined to make a change, Dr. Lin and his wife started small. They framed artistic scripture and placed it in every treatment room, ensuring that patients would be surrounded by God’s Word. Next, they replaced the secular music in the office with Christian worship, filling the atmosphere with truth and encouragement.

Then, something remarkable happened. Dr. Lin felt led to start praying for his patients—right in the office. Some were receptive, others were not, but he knew his role wasn’t to force anyone, only to plant seeds. The results were undeniable: over 1,000 Bibles given away, more than 700 people accepting Jesus as their Savior, and countless lives being transformed through prayer and conversation.

But the impact didn’t stop there. As patients gave their lives to Jesus, they wanted to take the next step in their faith. Dr. Lin and his team began hosting baptisms—at first using an inflatable tub, then upgrading to a horse trough as more and more people responded to the gospel. His office had become more than a place of dental care; it was now a hub for salvation, discipleship, and transformation.

Wanting to take things further, Dr. Lin led a Jesus Disciple class for his employees. This discipleship group not only strengthened their faith but also equipped them to lead others. Some of his staff have now started their own disciple-making groups, multiplying the impact beyond the office walls.

Of course, this ministry hasn’t come without challenges. Some patients were offended, a few left, and Dr. Lin even faced criticism.

“There’s been people that have literally cursed us and walked out,” he recalls. But even in those moments, God has been faithful. Despite losing some business, his practice has never lacked. “Whatever we’ve lost, I think God has multiplied it ten times over.”

More than ever, people are calling the office—not just for their dental needs, but for prayer, encouragement, and hope. One patient, battling cancer, reached out specifically for prayer. Others have come in after experiencing loss or personal hardship, searching for answers they never expected to find in a dental office.

Dr. Lin’s story is a powerful reminder that ministry isn’t confined to a church building. Every workplace, every home, and every community can be a mission field. God calls His people to bring the gospel wherever they are, whether in a dental office, a classroom, or a business.

“If I can do it, you can do it,” Dr. Lin encourages. “Use the gifts God has given you, ask Him where He wants you to serve, and trust that He will do the work.”

And as his story proves, when we say yes to God, lives change.
